INTERNSHIP POSITIONS (3) AVAILABLE
Brown Bag Renewal Intern- Summer 2005
Interns will work directly with elders to renew membership in the Brown Bag Food for Elders Program. Interns work under the supervision of the Brown Bag Program Manager.

BACKGROUND:
The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts is a non profit organization headquartered in Hatfield, Massachusetts, whose mission is to work with our community to reduce hunger and increase food security. The Brown Bag Program of The Food Bank is a monthly food distribution program for low-income elders. Members receive a bag of nutritious groceries each month from a distribution site in their own community. Fifty distribution sites currently exist, serving approximately 4,000 households each month. Each individual¡¦s membership in the program is renewed yearly.

TASKS INCLUDE:
„X Travel to Brown Bag sites in western Massachusetts, often with Brown Bag staff members
„X Assist elders in filling out renewal forms
„X Distribute membership cards
„X Prepare mailings to homebound elders whose Brown Bags are delivered
„X Data entry of all collected renewal information

QUALIFICATIONS
„X Ability to work effectively and respectfully with elders
„X Accurate data entry and word processing skills
„X Good verbal communication skills, both face to face and by telephone
„X Attention to detail
„X Access to a car
„X Morning availability

PREFERENCES:
„X Experience in Elder Services
„X Conversant in Spanish or Russian

BENEFITS: The Food Bank is unable to offer a stipend for this internship. We offer reimbursement for mileage for field work. This internship will increase student's awareness of hunger issues through involvement with The Food Bank; provide direct service experience working with low-income elders; provide experience in a non profit environment. Academic credit can be arranged.


DEADLINE: Applications accepted from April 1, 2005 until positions are filled. The three internships will begin June 1 and end in mid-August.
