Nobody can stop an idea whose time has come

The video documentary "The idea whose time has come" gave people with disabilities in Serbia the unique opportunity to vote for a choice. After a two year pilot project with Personal Assistance Service in five Serbian cities, project participants testified before the camera about the changes in their lives due to the services. Their stories are different: touchy, honest, bright, sad, optimistic and pessimistic (upon termination of the funding for the pilot project).

This documentary is an important tool for the Center of Independent Living campaign and for all people with disability who fight for their right for choice and self-determination. The documentary was selected by the International Documentary Film Festival and has been broadcast on some local TV stations.

The documentary will play a crucial role in our campaign over the next few months which we will address to relevant state Ministries, local authorities and the general public. The aim of the campaign will be to show solutions that enable people with disability to make their own choices in selecting the support they need and to demonstrate the necessity for a national policy and state funding for personal assistance services.
