 Skirt Patterns

This skirt pattern is easy to sew. It is a knee length skirt that is lower in front and higher in back, with a curved backside. It has two different backs to choose from, one that works better with stretch fabric, and one that works better with non-stretch fabric. Of course, you can always choose to sew either pattern in stretch as well as non-stretch fabric. Just remember that you have to put a zip in a non-stretch skirt, to enable you to get it over the hips when dressing. Pattern does not include zips, but sewing instructions explain how zips can be included in the pattern.

Pattern for a skirt in stretch fabric.

This is the pattern for a simple skirt without zips and with a back divided into two parts.

Below are drawings of a skirt without waistband. The front piece is cut lower and the back piece higher at the waistline. The curved seam in the middle of the back piece creates a crescent shaped butt area that fits a seated position.

A waistband lengthens both the front and back part of the skirt with the width of the waistband. This is the only difference in the patterns.

skirt with waistband fron, back and sideways

The skirt pattern without waistband is cut rather low on the hips. if you want a slightly higher waistline without using a waistband you will have to alter the pattern. A skirt sewn in a seating position can not be altered without moving the tucks in the side seams of the back piece. Below you will find pattern pages to alter the main pattern. they have the same page numbers as the pages of the original pattern and you simply exchange these for the alternative of a higher waistline.

The pattern to the stretch skirt includes:
pattern pages to assemble the front,
pattern pages to assemble the back,
pattern pages to exchange for a higher back.

Pattern for a skirt in non-stretch fabric .

This is a pattern for a skirt in non-stretch fabric with a back divided in three parts. A three-piece back divides the crescent shape more evenly over the butt area. the seams keep the skirt more firmly in place around the butt and hip areas.

Below is a drawing of a skirt with a three-piece back without waistband pictured front, back and sideways. as you can see the extra seam divides the crescent shape more even.
