Misson and activities:

Our mission is to secure and maintain the human and civil rights of all people with disabilities. Among our many activities here at AI, one of the fundraisers we have each year is "Roll Your Own" which assists people with home modifications and assistive technology to enhance the lives of people with disabilities. Some of our social activities include a Thanksgiving luncheon. This provides the opportunity for further interaction and socialization. Annually, we celebrate disAbility Awareness Week. Throughout the week, there are various events ending with a banquet where we give awards to organizations or individuals who have broken down barriers for people with disabilities. Career Day is also an AI activity that takes place every October. This Day is intended to provide 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students with the necessary, helpful information which can offer them opportunities to learn about taking those next steps after graduation from high school.

Our non governmental, non-profit, organization works at the local level.

We consider ourselves as part of the international Independent Living and Disability Rights Movement.

Our organization is mainly run, controlled and represented by disabled people.

We have expertise, or are interested in cooperating with other organizations, in the areas of:

HIP Program (Homeless Intervention Program) which is run by the Salvation Army; we work with Social Services and Social Security; we assist with housing, personal assistant services, BPAO, representative payee, bookkeeping services, and "Public Mobility" which is a coordinated regional transportation.

We may be able to refer disabled persons to wheelchair accessible housing or transportation or other services in our city.

We have traineeships or volunteer positions that people with disabilities are welcome to apply for.

Our traineeships or volunteer positions are open to applicants from abroad.

People planning to come to our city are welcome to contact us to find out about accessibility and services in Winchester. We may be able to help with information.
